The Nickel is located on the main level in the Hotel Teatro. I’ve probably walked by it at least 100 times thinking, “I need to try this place.” Thankfully Denver Restaurant Week gave me an opportunity to turn that thought into reality. We received a warm welcome from the hostess. That high level of service was displayed throughout the entire dining experience. It was constant and consistent from the host to the server and the management. Our server was very helpful in detailing each item on the menu. We ordered:
Beet & Goat Cheese Tart
All of our food arrived quickly. There weren’t the extended wait times between courses like many of the other restaurants we had dined at during the week. The portion sizes were on the smaller side. The meat (main courses) do not come with sides. There are a good number of “Complements” side dishes available for ordering is you’d like to build out your meal. The shortrib and the gratin were the two standout items for me. Both were beautifully displayed, and the flavor profiles really elevated their impact. All the food was tastefully prepared and plated with care.
The Nickel is a great restaurant for couples and business meetings. It has a more upscale vibe in comparison to some of the surrounding restaurants. When visiting, you should expect amazing service and a knowledgeable and attentive staff. The dinner menu is a bit limited, but I’m definitely looking forward to dining with them for brunch. Be prepare spend a decent amount of money if you are looking to leave full and are drinking something other than water. You get what you pay for! This is definitely a quality over quantity place. One negative is that the restrooms are located on a different floor. It was a bit inconvenient to have to take an elevator and walk through the lower level during dinner. Overall, The Nickel was a great find. I will be making a return visit sooner than later.
