Raquelitas Tortilla Tour

Last Tuesday, I had the pleasure of meeting with members of the Raquelitas Tortillas team and touring their plant in the RINO District. I’d met Rich Schneider (Tortilla Savant) at The Preservery during a meet and greet for Food Network’s Chopped champion Chef Dave Hadley. Rich invited me to stop by to check out their set up. Oddly enough, I had strolled by Raquelitas on numerous occasions. I had no clue of what was being manufactured. Quickly I realized how special this location was. It sits in the center of one of the most vibrant restaurant communities in Colorado.

As you enter the office doors, you will observe multiple mats with the Raquelitas Tortilla logo. It is a colorful image of a young lady, who I later found out was inspired by Rich’s niece. Within the office is a display of premium ingredients and other aspects that contribute to the production process. After a brief overview, we began our walk through the production floor.

The production area was well organized. Each line created a different type of tortilla. There were traditional corn and flour tortillas, tortilla chips, along with specialty wraps such as tomato, whole wheat and gluten-free amongst others. Rich informed me that often companies will come to them for custom wraps. This allows him to experiment with a diverse range of flavors and test unique ingredients to develop a superior product. Speaking of ingredients, Raquelitas Tortillas has continuously been recognized for their efforts in using locally sourced ingredients within its sustainable production process.

I was excited to learn that so many of my frequently visited restaurants were using Raquelitas Tortilla products. They are also the primary donor of tortillas for Denver’s Top Taco competition. Lucky for me the crew sent me home with a bunch of fresh tortillas and wraps. They have definitely come in handy for breakfast and lunch this past week. You can find Raquelitas Tortillas items sold at your local Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, Marczyks, and Sprouts. To learn more about Raquelitas Tortillas, visit their website. If you happen to be dining at one of the many local eateries that carry their products, snap a picture and tag them on Facebook or Instagram!
