Fish N Beer

The newly renamed Rino district is the home of some of the hottest new eateries and home to many influential culinary superstars. Fish N Beer is at the forefront of that movement. It is largely regarded as one of the top new eateries in Denver. The first time I visited, was after an underwhelming visit to Mister Tuna. The energy in this place was the polar opposite of what we had previously experienced. This small, and cozy, place provided much-needed warmth.

Immediately upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted with so many smiles. Some environments just bring the out the best in you. We received complimentary bubbles. Chef sent over some bites for us to sample while we waited for our appetizers. The beet tartar was stellar! It was a unique take on a dish that is traditionally prepared with beef or tuna. That risk-taking approach would prove to be a standard over each course.

During my second visit, we went all in on the menu. My friend had to have the oysters. We also ordered the charcuterie board. BBQ’d swordfish blades, smoked fish spread with chopped mixed veggies. The bread was charred perfection. Next was the bay scallops in a broth, with celery and bacon, gave me sweet and sour vibes. The Buffalo swordfish tails is a great take on fish and chips.

Service with a smile! The team at Fish N Beer gives me the warm and fuzzies. I’ve often seen them out and about and they are as friendly outside the job are they are inside. The chef does an incredible job manning the small and open kitchen. That thing is a well-oiled machine. Everyone working in unison and communicating effectively. The counter is the best seat in the house. You’re right in front of all the action! They have a solid oyster selection. Remember to ask what the daily specials are, as they change often. Good seafood spots are few and far between in the Mile High City. Fish N Beer is a clear cut leader of this cuisine category. I can easily say this is one of my favorite restaurants, period!
