Zoes Kitchen

Zoes Kitchen is one of the newest fast-casual eateries near Union Station. It hosts a number Mediterranean inspired of dishes. Upon entering the restaurant you will see a colorful, open dining space. Take a menu and walk to the counter for ordering. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to walking you through the menu. You can also place an order online to have it ready for pickup ahead of time!

Let’s talk about the food. First, I love the menu layout which hosts pictures and a clear description of each dish. No guesswork needed. It highlights calorie count and dietary icons such as gluten-free and vegetarian. It’s broken down into a number of categories:

  • Starters

  • Soup and Salad

  • Sandwiches and Pitas

  • Kabobs

  • Bowls and Entrees

  • Liv Med Kids

  • Sides and Snack Boxes

  • Dessert

  • Drinks

I ordered the follow:

Hummus Trio with basil pesto, harissa red pepper, and classic hummus; served with pita bread, pita chips, cucumbers, bell peppers and grape tomatoes.

Harissa Salmon Pita topped with harissa-marinated salmon, house-made tzatziki, Moroccan harissa, Mediterranean relish, cabbage, feta and fresh dill.

Mediterranean Salad Trio Bowl of pesto farro, zesty quinoa, and orzo "tabouli" salads with house-made tzatziki, Italian salsa verde, feta, cucumbers and fresh dill.

The portions were hearty and the food tasted fresh and vibrant. All the flavors were there. The meats were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The vegetables were crispy and colorful. These are all really appealing plates. The basil pesto hummus was super official. I loved the harissa marinated salmon pita as well. The pesto farro was the highlight of the Mediterranean Salad Trio Bowl. I could just eat that by itself!

My overall impression of Zoes Kitchen is that it is the perfect midday meal if you are looking for a diverse food offering on the fly. Whether you are on your lunch break, waiting for the train or just strolling the 16th street mall, this is a great food option. Each dish was packed with bold flavors and balance of protein and fiber. Service is quick and hassle-free. This is also a great option for catering and family style meals. I really liked how their menu has a fish option. Generally, this isn’t something available on most fast-casual menus.
