DiFranco's may be one of the most underrated dining destinations near the Capitol Hill neighborhood. There aren’t too many places that serve up handmade pasta and pastries in less than 15 minutes. It’s a perfect lunch option and ordering dinner here is a breeze. I’m a bit late with this review, as they have already rolled out their fall menu. But I wanted to highlight some of the offerings on the menu that change seasonally.
Summer: Watermelon Salad: Topped with arugula and feta cheese
Fall: Beet Salad: roasted beets, arugula, goat cheese, balsamic, prosciutto
Chicken Parm: local chicken breast, homemade breadcrumbs, fresh mozz, Denver's best red sauce, pecorino romano, fresh parsley, + onions
Summer: Pesto + Sun Dried Tomato Pasta
Fall: pumpkin gnocchi + butternut squash ravioli
You can’t go wrong with the pasta. There are always some traditional dishes available, such as the spaghetti, penne and stuffed shells. The pumpkin gnocchi and butternut squash ravioli serve are fall rollouts. With fresh handmade pasta, you're receiving flavor and great texture. Sauces are simple and paired perfectly with each pasta type. Most dishes incorporate only 3-5 main ingredients. I love that! When using quality products, you want to let those items speak for themselves.
Both the salads and sandwiches are perfect for lunch. I really enjoyed the portion sizes. There is enough to fill you up without stuffing yourself silly. I’ve noticed that Italian restaurants portions vary from fine dining to more casual settings. Their desserts are a real strong point! The cannoli pastry was crispy and the filling was perfectly sweetened. I’m a huge fan of their little lemon cookies with icing. I could eat at least 10 of these guys.
All items are made to order! So, you can guarantee that all dishes will arrive hot and cooked to perfection. This small team works extremely efficiently. I loved being able to view the entire operation while placing an order. The crew definitely makes you feel appreciated. The casual environment doesn’t deter the Difranco's team from providing excellent service. It’s actually the perfect type of place for solo dinner or a quick sit down dinner for two. I’m super disappointed I missed the fall menu tasting. But I have my eyes open for their winter release. So many restaurants could take a note out their book on hosting a cool event to show off the seasonal additions.
