The Lobby

The Lobby has been on my radar for some time. Every picture I can remember seeing is a packed restaurant, or patio shot, with lots of people enjoying some classic eats. It took me by surprise when I stepped into the building, on a Thursday night, and it was nearly empty. I was a bit nervous, but still very intrigued. I quickly learned that The Lobby was more of a daytime destination. As I took a deeper look at their menu, I could definitely see why. All day brunch!!! They immediately won me over before I had even taken a bite.

 

 

Unfortunately, our visited landed on a day where I was a little under the weather. Our bartender, Meg, knew exactly what was needed to clear me up. She made a Hot Tottie! That did the trick. We spent the next 20 minutes dissecting the menu. Seriously, all day brunch is a game changer. I had to force myself to make a decision. The other entertaining component of the menu, are the names of the dishes. This is by far the wittiest rundown I’ve seen. We spent at least 7 minutes taking that all in. Finally, it was time to order.

 

 

FRIED BRUSSEL TOSS – plum sauce, fried kale, parmesan

 

CHORIZO DEVILED EGGS – hard-boiled eggs filled with whipped egg yolk, topped with house-made pork belly chorizo and fresh chives

 

THAT STICKY ICKY – deep fried french toast sticks served with chef’s choice of sauce

 

SHRIMP & GRIT CAKES – blackened shrimp over garlic cheddar grit cakes covered in sweet creamed corn

 

SMOKEY & THE SALMON – house-smoked salmon, sun-dried tomato cream cheese, poached eggs, brown butter hollandaise, English muffin, chives, breakfast tots

 

 

I’ve noticed that Deviled Eggs are popping up everywhere. It seems like every two years there is a major culinary trend. This is one of them. There wasn’t much flavor and cold chorizo is just not my thing. The shining star from the starters was the Fried Brussel Toss. I could have left satisfied with this one dish. The plum sauce….wow! This is a dish I would absolutely come back for.  

 

 

That Sticky Icky was a dope take on French toast sticks. They were prepared fried with chef’s choice of sauce. It came with a whipped cream type concoction. It did little for the dish. The highlight component was this honey bourbon syrup! That thing took this dish over the top. I recommended that they serve the french toast sticks with a flight of syrups. A girl likes to have choices. Both the Shrimp & Grit Cakes and Smokey & The Salmon were solid. Everything was well salted and showcased great flavor combinations.

 

 

The Lobby seems to have a menu where you really can’t go wrong with anything you order. The Fried Brussel Toss was my favorite item. Brussel sprouts can be difficult to prepare. They can be even harder to put your own spin on. The Lobby did both. The fact that they have an all-day brunch menu was super exciting. The weekend can get hectic. Some people (me, myself and I) can’t manage to get up and moving in the nick of time. This is a perfect opportunity to sip on a few mimosas and a sweet treat with no restriction. You can’t beat that in my book. Definitely looking forward to tasting a few more of these dishes in the near future!
