2018 Denver Restaurant Week Recap

The 14th annual Denver Restaurant Week took place February 23 - March 4, 2018. Hundreds of Denver’s top restaurants offer multi-course dinners for three price levels $25, $35, or $45. I made it my business to go through all the menus to determine the best deals and food offerings. I rounded my crew up and we hit Coperta, Concourse, and The Family Jones. Here’s the breakdown!

Coperta serves up food and wine from Rome and the southern regions of Italy. My first visit, came a week or two after their opening. There was some potential but I found the pasta to be undercooked and the menu slightly overpriced. Fast forward a few years later, I’d decided to give Coperta another shot. So many of my friend rave about it, and for good reason. This visit did not disappoint. In fact, it surpassed my expectations. They offered a four-course menu at $35 for Denver Restaurant Week. The following was the rundown of our meal.

  • Supplì al Telefono

  • Fried Calamar

  • Orecchiette alla Pugliese

  • Pappardelle, Monkfish Sugo

  • Pollo allo Diavolo w/ Polenta

  • Eggplant Parmigiana

  • Grass Fed Beef Sirloin w/ Polenta

  • Gelato

  • Grispelle

The Calamar was fried to perfection. It had just enough salt. The lemon balanced it with a touch of citrus. It’s a toss-up between Orecchiette Alla Pugliese and the Eggplant Parmigiana for my second favorite item. Both dishes packed intense flavors that weren’t overwhelming but made a big impact. The cocktails showcased the same refined touch as the main courses. I may have just found my newest neighborhood dining destination!

Concourse has been on my radar for nearly a year. Visits to places like this are really what makes Denver Restaurant Week special. It's located in an area of town that is blooming, but I rarely make it out to. The space gives you all the high-end vibes you would want for a special occasion or a date night!

  • Bacon & Octopus Risotto Balls, Smoked Tomato Butter

  • Roasted Beet Salad, Arugula Sorbet, Shallot Dressing

  • Wagyu Beef Tataki, Smoked Egg Mayo, Potato Chips

  • Roasted Cauliflower, Brown Butter, Capers

  • Atlantic Salmon, Barbeque Root Vegetables, Charred Onion Powder

  • Duroc Pork Loin, Black Venetian Rice, Celery Root Fondue, Pueblo Chili Powder

  • Milk Chocolate Chantilly Gold Bar, Hazelnut, Feuilletine Crunch

  • Velvet Cheesecake, Berry Powder, Walnut Crust, Fromage Blanc Ice Cream

I never thought I would say this, but the Roast Cauliflower in brown butter with capers was my absolute favorite dish. I can’t even put it into words. Each dish was prepared with a level of thoughtfulness that is often forgotten by most kitchens. Concourse exhibited what a quality dining experience is all about. Great food, beverage pairing, exceptional service. Small details like the staff refreshing your drinks and changing out the silverware after each course made my night.

The Family Jones

The Family Jones Spirit House is known for crafted cocktails made with their locally distilled spirits. Their stunning Instagram feed drew me in. The $25 three-course meal sealed the deal! This might have been the best bang for your buck menu on the Denver Restaurant Week ticket. Portion sizes were great. Though the menu is minimal, there were a solid number of options for each course. Do remember this is a distillery.

  • Pozole

  • Quinoa and Beet Salad

  • Roasted Sea Bass

  • Cannelloni

  • Apple Pie

  • Ice Cream Sandwich

For the first course, I was torn between the Meat and Cheese Plate and the Pozole. I went with the Pozole for the simple fact that it was available specifically for Denver Restaurant Week. The dish differed a bit from the traditional recipe, but the flavors were fresh and melted together seamlessly. The Roasted Sea Bass was a light treat. It was stuffed littleneck clams in a New England chowder broth. My favorite dessert of all three DRW destinations was the miniature Apple Pie from the Family Jones. This is a grown and sexy pregame cocktail spot to start your weekend off on a high note.
